Once Upon a Time...

In a land far, far away. Actually the year was 2002 and the place - Brisbane. Inside a university classroom a couple of students meet as part of a group project. One is talented in internet computing and the other is advanced in programming and technical matters. Let’s call them Shen and Mikk. We’ll call them that mainly because that is their actual names.

A Partnership Begins

Now Shen and Mikk were good at what they did. They were so good in fact that a university assignment for a major Australian company quickly turned into the opportunity for contract work with that company after graduating. Shen and Mikk took the contract and found that their set of skills complemented that of the other very nicely. So a business partnership was formed. As more work came in, the next step was to turn the partnership into a company. To name the company Shen and Mikk spent 1000's of dollars on focus groups and market research. Well, the truth is that while playing pool one evening they decided on Eightball Media and that's how a future mega-company* was named. (*At time of writing, Mega-company status may still be several years away.)

The Garage Days

How would you start your own business straight out of university? Mikk and Shen followed the lead of Apple founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and set up in the garage. The quality of work being produced from the garage was good but it wasn’t the ideal location to wine and dine potential clients. It was also a tad cold in winter, pretty warm in summer and as the Eightball team grew the garage became a little bit crowded too.

So 2009 saw Eightball Media move to its current office location in Sunnybank/Robertson. The Eightball team has also grown to 8 now which means that the team has doubled in size twice in just 4 years. If that growth rate continues then in just 20 years Eightball will have over 2000 employees. Exciting times ahead!
