Most people who jump online are sure to at least know of YouTube. If you haven’t heard about it, here is a very quick summary of YouTube.com from Wikipedia (Wikipedia is a community based free encyclopaedia that anyone can contribute to).

“YouTube was founded by Chad HurleySteve Chen and Jawed Karim, who were all early employees of PayPal. Prior to PayPal, Hurley studied design at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Chen and Karim studied computer science together at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The domain name “YouTube.com” was activated onFebruary 15, 2005, and the website was developed over the subsequent months. The creators offered the public a preview of the site in May 2005, six months before making its official debut.

Few statistics are publicly available regarding the number of videos on YouTube. However, in July 2006, the company revealed that more than 100 million videos were being watched every day, and 2.5 billion videos were watched in June 2006 “

Great, so how does this help my website promote better on the Internet?

YouTube is free to upload videos too. With millions of people logging onto YouTube daily to watch videos, you have the ability to produce demonstration videos, videos of interest, even your own adverts!

A great idea for a small business wanting to promote their business is to offer useful information that can be viewed on YouTube (which is FREE – everybody likes FREE right?). One suggestion is to focus on one particularly useful aspect of your business or industry so that your target audience can utilise it for themselves.

Let’s use a website design company as an example. They could interview one of their Internet Marketing team members in regards to Google Adwords or YouTube. The content in the video would be interesting and highly beneficial to your target audience. Needless to say, if you spark their interest, they would want to know more after watching the video so offer an easy point of contact if they wished to follow up or obtain more information.

You can also link your YouTube videos to your website. This will also utilise your website’s hosting better. By having your videos accessible in more than one place, it gives your customers a reason to pop back or even login to their YouTube account and subscribe to your videos.
