Quick E-Signature Tutorial for Mac

Signing a PDF document electronically becomes a walk in the park with this handy tutorial. The below guide is made for Mac users.

We recommend using your Mac’s Preview app, as it has a built-in feature which makes the process almost intuitive and effortless.

If you want to learn more about e-signatures and how they work, you can view our previous blog.

Easy as 1,2,3…

Step 1: Open your document

The Preview app should be the default option that opens when you double-click on any PDF file (unless you’ve changed your settings). In the case that it isn’t, you should first open Preview and then open your document in the app. You can find out more about how to use Preview on Apple’s support page

Step 2: Sign your document

In Preview, click the toolbox-shaped “Show Markup Toolbar” button. Then, click the “Sign” button on the now appearing toolbar. You’ll be prompted to create your signature. It’s easy to do so using your trackpad or mouse — draw it freehand (you may need a couple of tries to get it looking right).

The good news is you only need to capture your signature once because Preview automatically remembers it for the future.

Step 3: Save & send your document

Once you’ve completed the above step, you can select the signature you want to use from the menu that appears after you click the “Sign” button. Your signature is applied as an image. Try dragging and resizing to fit your document. Now, it’s as easy as hitting that save button, naming your document and sending it on its way!

Finito! You’re finished in 3 easy steps!
